Our Intensive Course provides concentrated tuition for potential taxi drivers within the City of Edinburgh and Edinburgh Airport. The average student receives approximately 35 to 40 private lessons, during which time they are driven round the city studying streets, housing areas, routes etc. Students also attend the Evening Class course at Boroughmuir High School.
We have been running our Intensive Course since 1991 and have trained dozens of Edinburgh taxi drivers using this method. Many companies within the Edinburgh area have funded this training for employees who face redundancy.
Our success rate is second to none. Every single student who completed the Intensive Course and sat the Council's Topographical Test has been successful. We are proud that our structured programme, professional approach and attention to the needs of the individual have made this achievement possible.
Pupils attend stage 1 of our Evening Class course which consists of 13 lessons. Most students come into the classroom twice per week over a six and a half week period, but it is possible to spread these lessons out over a longer period if that would be more suitable. At eight of these lessons the student will study a pre-determined section of the city. The remaining five lectures are devoted to additional items such as hospitals, hotels, theatres etc as well as general taxi-related information.
In addition to attending evening classes, Intensive Course students can expect to receive in the region of 35 to 40 individual daytime sessions, lasting on average three hours per lesson. The exact number of sessions will be determined by the specific needs of the individual student.
During these sessions, which are undertaken on a one to one basis, the pupil is driven around all of the areas etc which have been studied in a previous Evening Class lesson. Additionally, in later sessions, route planning techniques are taught and practised. Progress tests are issued throughout and these highlight any aspects of the syllabus which may be in need of further clarification.
Students attend our classroom Assessment sessions and from the results of these test papers we are able to pinpoint any aspects of the course work which require further instruction and clarification. Consequently, the second part of the Intensive Course is modelled round the specific needs of the individual. Subject matter in these final sessions will obviously vary, and may include revisiting certain areas, practising routes etc.
We are very confident that the Intensive Course provides a cost effective and very efficient method of obtaining the coveted Edinburgh Taxi Driver's Licence in a relatively short period of time.
