CORRESPONDENCE COURSE

picture of a TX1 taxi

The correspondence course enables you to study the course at home. The main advantage of a correspondence course is the ability for the individual to learn at their own speed, and at times most convenient to themselves.

The "Cab Office Street Test" consists of a written examination in two parts. The first part consists of a question and answer section testing the candidate's knowledge of the housing areas, streets, hotels, hospitals, official buildings and various other subjects which they consider a taxi driver should know. The second part consists of five routes, chosen at random, within the city, and they expect the potential taxi driver to be able to complete at least four of these.

In our course we cover all relevant subjects likely to turn up in the actual tests. The large coloured map of Edinburgh supplied with the course has already been divided into eight sections, one of which is covered by each of the first 8 lessons. Topics such as hospitals, hotels, museums etc are also covered throughout the course.

During the course you are welcome to attend any of the evening classes for any lesson, or lessons, that you may have experienced difficulties with. This would be free of charge.

On completion of the basic course you are then invited to attend any number of our Assessment classes. These sessions are presently being held on a weekly basis and you will be expected to tackle "Full Mock Tests" Under Exam Conditions. These sessions are proving very popular and are giving our pupils a really accurate indication of just how well prepared they actually are. The tests are also an extremely useful aid to finding any weak spots in the individual's study programme, giving potential candidates a realistic timescale to work towards the Cab Office Test.
